The City of Scottsdale is inviting everyone to the National Styles of Humor discussion happening on August 28, 2013 at 1:00 in the afternoon at the Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road.

The discussion will compare and contrast Afghan oral humor, Bulgarian visual humor, Classical Greek satire, America’s frontier humor, urban legends and parodies, German “Schadenfreude” humor, as well as England’s hierarchical and didactic Comedy of Manners.

This event is presented by Don and Alleen Nilsen, Ph.D., professors in the English Department at ASU. Together they have written “The Encyclopedia of 20th Century American Literature,” “Names and Naming in Young Adult Literature,” and “Vocabulary Plus: A Source-Based Approach to Teaching about Metaphor.”

This is a free event.
